11A Idea Napkin


My talent is coming up with the most efficient way to solve the problem. I thought about trying to make a lawnmower that is completely autonomous, but I feel like the development costs would be so high, and there are so many variable that it is better to have a human driver the mower until the technology progresses.

I am offering an innovative solution that will increase the efficiency of mowing lawns. It is a simple investment for the customer to make, and it will provide long term gains for them without any extra investment.

The main demographic would be professional lawn care services. My secondary market would be anyone who buys a riding mower, and wants an even bigger mowing width.

They care because it would increase the profitability of their business. They would make an investment today for a long term gain in the future.

My core competencies are that I will be first to the market, and after that everyone else will try and catch up. I will also ensure that I constantly innovate, and have the best design and function to stay ahead of the rest of the market.

  1. I like that you tied together your individual talent and core competencies to show that your biggest advantage in the market will be your personal ability to effectively innovate. I would love to know more about how you plan to target your secondary market and how you feel your product would benefit that market as well. It is pretty clear you could sell this product to companies, but how would it benefit the individuals?

    I like how you talk about your product being easy for the consumer to make the purchase. The idea that it’s a one-time purchase that will provide big benefits for the user is a huge selling feature. Although I agree that your primary profit would come from professional lawn services, I think the secondary market could be large too. Since many homeowners and ranchers own large acreages of land that need to be mowed, this could provide a great secondary revenue source for your product. I know people with a few acres of land that would like to be able to mow their lots quicker and would probably be interested in buying this type of product.

    I will tell you that I am very impressed with how you worded everything. Right off the bat on your idea napkin, you state how you wanted to solve the big problem, but you decided to just help solve the problem at first. I had someone tell me one time that you have to think big and start small. You are thinking big in solving the whole problem of mowing grass, but right now you are looking to solve what you know you can solve. That is definitely an entrepreneurial mindset. Good job Brandon.
